Ch 5 v 9-12
Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So the place has been called Gilgal to this day. On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.
Think
This chapter is the end of one chapter in Israel’s history and the beginning of another.
The generation that left Egypt have now all died, and this generation have only known life in the desert. First, they need to be circumcised – the mark that shows that they are in a covenant relationship with God – they belong to him. And then, we see how they continue to ‘re-set’ their relationship with God. They celebrate the Passover and then they finally get to eat some of the produce of the land that God had promised to give them.
Seasons of life come and go – we are living through a new one at the moment – and, just like the Israelites, we need to regularly ‘reset’ our relationship with God. So here are two questions for you to consider:
- When was the last time you checked with God that the shape of your life was still what he wants – your job, where you live, how you serve in church etc?
- When this current season comes to an end, what will thinks look like as we move forward? What does God what to change? Where are the areas in your own life, and the church’s life together, where God wants to ‘stop the manna’ and replace it with new, fresh things?
Pray
Dear Lord, thank you that you have promised to give us all we need in this life, and that one day, those who love you will enter the true ‘promised land’.
Help me today to allow you to re-shape my life as you see fit. Help me to trust you to meet all my needs as I follow your lead.
Please continue to grow our relationship to an ever-greater depth. Amen
