Joshua Ch 8
v8 When you have taken the city, set it on fire. Do what the Lord has commanded.
v27 But Israel did carry off for themselves the livestock and plunder of this city, as the Lord had instructed Joshua.
Think
In Ch 7, we see how disobedience to God’s commands brings defeat, loss of confidence and ultimately death!
But our disobedience is never the end of the story. Here we see God giving Israel another chance to gain more of the land he has promised to give them – but they need to learn to trust him and be obedient to him.
Can you remember a time when God had to help you to learn to ‘do what the Lord has commanded’?
How long did it take you to learn the lesson? – In some ways we are still all learning!
Pray
Dear Lord, thank you that you are quick to forgive us when we are disobedient. Thank you that you discipline us because you love us! (Job 5v17, Proverbs 3v12)
Please help me to hear clearly from you and to faithfully respond. Give me the courage to trust that your way is always the right way. Protect me from wanting to put my trust in myself or the things of this life.
Please speak to me about your plans for Kingsgate and help me to play my part with obedience that pleases you. Amen
