Over the last few posts I’ve been sharing about how the pulsating heartbeat of Kingsgate is that we make much of Jesus. However, it’s really important that we prayerfully ask the question “OK, so how are we together, as a church, going to make much of Jesus”.
We believe, that our vision, which is really the direction of travel for the next season, or you could even say the near horizon that we are pointing towards, is to:
Raise a 300-strong church community, that is devoted to gospel-shaped:
- Witness
- Discipleship
- Compassion
Every word in this Vision Statement is loaded with lots of ideas and I want to take the next few blog posts to unpack them. So, let me get started with the first word – ‘Raise’.
RAISE
Vision requires action. Like raising children or raising up a building, it requires ongoing and deliberate action! This vision is going to require us to roll up our sleeves, muck in, give ourselves and to be ‘here’ to the hilt (or to the full). Like the story of Nehemiah in the Old Testament, in just over 50 days, a ragbag group of people rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. It was a Herculean effort, that modelled what a community of people, like us, can accomplish when we set our hearts, minds and lives to pursuing something bigger than ourselves that God is calling us to!
Now that’s the atmosphere of a community of vision!
