On Sunday we prayed the following prayer together as part of our Sunday worship. I thought you might like to see it in print and able to use it over the course of this week to help you to continue to pray this part of the Lord’s Prayer.
Father God,
I know that within me there are often two kingdoms at war! There’s the kingdom of me-and-my-wants, you could call it the kingdom of self-love (but that’s hard to hear) and then there’s your kingdom, the kingdom of love.
I know the battle rages hardest and hottest where my affections and longings and wants are strongest! So today, I pray afresh, “Let your kingdom come, here in this very small patch of earth (or dust) called me”. Overcome my weak longings that are motivated by self-love and replace them with your great kingdom affections! Let your kingdom of love conquer the kingdom of self-love in me.
Father, I also pray that the ways of your kingdom would be ever increasing in me. The ways of your kingdom are “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Let it be very evident, before I even open my mouth, that I’m yours and your kingdom is shaping who I am, what I think, how I feel, and what I say (and don’t say) and how I act.
Lord, let your kingdom come here today in this little piece of earth (or dust) which is called me and my life!
Father, as we continue to explore what it means to belong to the Family of God, I pray that we together would surrender any and every me-and-my-ministry motivation and ruthlessly replace them with “Jesus-and-his-affections and his plans for his church”
Lord, we pray together, let your kingdom come here in this very small piece of earth called Kingsgate Community Church.
We pray all of this in the name of our great Saviour – Jesus
Amen
