Over the last few posts, I started to unpack the vision we have for Kingsgate which is to: Raise a 300-strong church community, that is devoted to gospel-shaped Witness, Discipleship and Compassion

Today I want to focus on one word which has massive implications for us as a church:
WITNESS
When we’re clear and focused on cultivating a discipleship culture in the church, we can turn our attention outwards to being a church community that together, is committed to pursuing one goal: that every single person who lives in the Borough of Great Yarmouth would know for themselves that Jesus changes lives!
Friends, that is a vast and scary goal! What we’re not saying is that everyone has become a Christian, but rather, that every single person has been presented with evidence that Jesus is not just an historical figure, but that he is alive and active and changing lives all around this Borough!
Some of this witness will be in programmes such as Alpha, much of it will be in small informal groups where you will be reading the Bible together with people who are exploring the faith, and loads of it will be learning how to share our stories in our workplaces, amongst our neighbours and over the frozen peas in Morrisons!
I guess I want this post (along with the vision talk I did back in March) to be a little like the starting gun for a new season for us! There are about 100,000 people in this Borough and the vast majority think Jesus is totally irrelevant to their lives – let’s commit ourselves to changing that, shall we?
